Stress

In lieu of coming up on finals right now, I thought of a topic we could all relate to right now : stress. In the midst of trying to pull together projects and final papers and exams are there ways to help manage your stress so that it doesn't take over your life or turn your back into knots?
We all know that extreme stress is no good for us and it can even come out in us physically if we don't keep it under control. It can get us sick or make us gain weight, or just make us want to snap at the smallest thing. None of these are things that any of us want..( i think). Anyway, I found this great little list of tips on the APA site for managing stress and keeping it down during hectic times, or in your day to day in NYC. It has some really great helpful tips and is worth reading. Alot of it has to do with knowing and identifying times when you will be feeling stressed out or how your body reacts. And then just making the time for yourself to take care of yourself with excercise, meditation, or getting away, whatever it is that will help you. I think the bottom line is, no matter how crazy things get, take care of yourself and make the time you need.
And here is the link to the page, it's just a sort quick read that won't take much time out of you homework. Anyway, make it one step into taking some time for stress management!http://apahelpcenter.mediaroom.com/index.php?s=pageA&item=42

Thank you for sharing this article. It has been very helpful to me. I agree that it is important to understand one's own stress experience in order to deal with it. People need to know the causes, signs, symptoms and effects to relieve their stress.

Sometimes, people need to admit that they are under extreme stress and anxiety to reach out for help and support.

I believe there are many ways to manage stress. As it said in the article I hope everyone finds a good way to relieve and manage their stress.

Hey Renee, thanks for this post, very helpful and insightful. Stress is something we all deal with all the time and whether we like it or not, there really is no way to avoid it. It is part of everyday life and the only thing we can do is to try and be able to manage our stress and there are many things to help us do that, as Renee has mentioned and the stress management link she has supplied us with. Stress is well... stressful and it is actually good for us and our body actually needs and depends on it in certain situations. So believe it or not, stress is a way of life that our body actually needs stress. I read somewhere before about why we need stress, but basically it helps our immune system to be stronger to fight off sicknesses and make us feel better.
A good article is http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/DyeHard/story?id=642862&page=1 and http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/10335.php

This article cause my eye because i am very stressed. I need to learn how to manage it because sometimes it can overcome me and if it is bothering me i may think about it up to days. Right before I read this article I wrote down all the things that need to be done before the last day of school which is next monday. One thing that worries me is having enough time to do so. From now on Im goint to try to manage my stress because although I am stressed with school work there are also other things I may think about that trigger my stress also.
although stress is apart of our everyday life there are many things we can do to relieve ous stress. I dont have an article at this time but my cousin was telling me about this book she was reading and she read that a way to relieve stress was to breath in and out and as your doing so you dont think about anything, just focus on your breathing and for the time. try it...I have and it did work.

I think what's most interesting about this is the relationship between our mind and body when we are stressed out. I have noticed that my experience with the stress of finals is much different depending on how well I've been taking care of myself for the few weeks leading up to finals. If I have been exercising and eating right, I usually find that I can think more clearly, manage my time better, pace myself, and get everything I need to get done with time to spare. When I haven't been taking care of myself, I have a much more difficult time managing to do all my work and will feel overwhelmed pretty easily.

I also find that handling finals at the end of the spring is less stressful than in the winter, probably because the of the weather. When it's nice out, even if I'm rushing around like a maniac trying to get all my work done I can at least take the time to enjoy the day and relax a little while it's nice outside; it can be slightly meditative.

This is a greaat article given at the right time. Stress ca have a major toll on our lives if we allow ourselves to be consumed by it. There should always be a healthy alternative when it comes to being stresses. Taking a long jog, or going on a vacation or fun trip usually does the trick for me. Sometimes it is difficult to make time for the trip and then I get stressed over that because i put a lot of my time into my schoolwork. I have learned to cope with it by just putting it on hold going to the movies or talking it out with my boyfriend, or doing an intense run to get it out of my mind. Thanks for this article Renee!! :)

I think it is pretty article in this time. From this week, I started final projects and exams on my class. Because of thought about finishing the semester, I am actually more stressful. Also, I truly believe that stressed mind strongly affect my body. For instance, when I become nervous, I have frequently an attack of indigestion. So, I think it is strong relation between body and mind. Thank you for your posting and I can know how to control my stress. It is very interesting article.

This article is very intresting at this time. I have a lot of stress during the final exams. I think important thing is do not have a stress too much yourself. Stress is mostly from your thinking. Which means your brain. Therfore you need to control your self. Because too much stress does not help you to your projects. Here is my tip to release the stress my self. First, having a rest even in a shor time. In my case, I take a nap or close my eyes for a few mineutes. These are really helpful to relase the stress. However, people have a lot of stress from different reasons. They need to resist it ,so they can solve their problems. Remember that having a stress is not the solution for your self.
