Depression

Most people have experienced depression in some ways. In our mindset that depression is abnormal state that requires some kind of mental medication. But the blog that I read says that "It's OK to be depressed sometimes" because it is also part of human nature.
Well good to hear it becuase I have experienced depression also, but how do we draw line between the status that requires medication and not?

I don't think there is any person who has not been depressed at some point in their life. I'm not a crazy ass scientologist or anything, but for certain things you may not really NEED medication. Like when doctors were throwing Ritalin at kids like it was candy.

I suppose some "warning signs" could be withdrawal, weight loss, not eating, thoughts of suicide. It's really hard to tell. And does the medication even really help all that much? You have medication these days saying not to take it because of possible thoughts of suicide and depression. There are even anti-depressants that do more harm than good. Sometimes it's just not worth trying to get any medication for things like that. If you're depressed and not doing anything about, then going on medication but still not trying to get better isn't gonna help. You have to help yourself.

Hi Sun, could you indicate which week this post is to be counted for? Remember, the topic has to relate to the lecture of that day. rw

jake, tell us more about how you purport people 'help themselves' out of a depression. rw

thats a good point, but i think people should worry when there depression is seriously infringing on there lives and there common abilities are disturbed. such as eating, decision making and the ability to probably rationalize.

To go further into how people can "help themselves," usually when you're depressed, you want to be alone. You want to sulk, mope, etc. You're still going to be in the same shitty mood if you're still doing the same shitty things. That's how it is. If you want to perk up, you have to go out. Or if you're still having a hard time, try talking to someone about it. Or do fun things around the house that can change your mood around. Watch a funny movie, surf the web, call someone, play a game, read a book, etc. Whatever gets you up and over the hump. Like I said, just because you're taking medication DOESNT mean you'll get better if youre STILL sitting around moping. People are too lazy these days when it comes to actually doing things for themselves. Don't resort to pills to get you better when it's something that you can easily do yourself, even though at the time you may not think so.

Depression is such a deep and huge subject to speak entirely about in a blog. This is said because sometimes depression is built up over time by group of events. When a person does get into a state of depression he is almost at his last grips with himself where one might need help in over coming the depression. This is when either the person either gets depression, talks to someone about, or takes made into their own hands.
But on the other people be depressed and go into depression with out showing any simptons. This form of depressio is the worst because no one will be able to help . This stage is solely based on the person's will to get better

Ok, how's about this. My whole life i thought i was depressed, i thought i could help it, and i could. It didn't affect my social life in the least bit, but something seemed off. At one point it boiled up to the point where i actually told my doctor about it, she gave me a medication, i took it, then i felt like a slave to the medication. In turn, i felt more depressed about taking the medication, than i did just with my normal depression. So i stopped taking it about a week into first getting the meds, and now, whenever i'm depressed i know it's not something that i need to stress about, because everyone suffers a bit from it, and most of the time it just blows over. The key for me to getting over my depression is to literally figure out why i'm depressed, change the variables if they are not too extreme, and deal. Most of the time it's little nonsense that can get people depressed, like relationships, procrastination. I feel that you can change if you're not lazy. And if you're depressed, and you've tried to work through it yourself but it persists, then find someone who won't judge you to talk to, medicine for depression should be the last resort.

I think that when you cannot isolate the problem that causes your depression is when you must seek medical help. If you are just preoccupied with something that depresses you then you should just fix it yourself or just deal with it.
