MIND HACKS

I read the brief little article "Mind Hacks". It basically sums up the basic idea between good and evil in the psyche. Michael Shermer, the author of the actual article says, "It is too simple to blame evil people for horrifying acts of terror". He believes the basis of good and evil is a cognitive psychological process everyone shares. This becomes the structure for wat we have been learning about the past two weeks, The Fundamental Attribution Error. And...not to be redundant, but I'll just mention to be thorough, we all know that the Fundamental Attribution Error is a theory that poses a way to understand the way a person acts based on their disposition or behavior. As humans, we are curious as to why people act the way they do, and why we ourselves act a certain way. What I thought was interesting from "Mind Hacks", that I happen to find funny because there is truth in it is that when we ourselves view other people we over emphasise their personality or characteristics. While when we defend ourselves and our actions, we take a situational analysis or stand point. The example in the article was: "HE didn't do the dishes because he is LAZY." and "I didn't do the dishes because I HAD SUCH A LONG DAY AT WORK." The article sugests tat although this isn't right, we judge because it is easier, it's easier to state someone is lazy that to actually take the time and conisder the possiblities of the whole situation.

I have not yet read the article yet, but sometimes when people trying to draw the line between good and evil, it sounds so vague to me. In some case, we can absolutely determine what's good and what's not, but sometimes I think good and evil depends on which side you're on. And I think it's related to FAE.

Oh, Cat. Can't get anything past you!

Well, using myself as an example, I can say that yes, a lot of the time I'm too lazy to actually take the time to really get to know a person. Which is how a majority of the population works. You feed off of what you see/hear. But after I get my first thoughts, I start to think it out a bit. Like, if I go bring someone cupcakes. And you see me walking down the street with some cupcakes. And you didn't know me. What would you think?
