The real reason atheists have higher IQs

This article suggests that atheists are more intelligent then religious people, because they have higher IQ, though I'm not really convinced that IQ test results don't determine who is more or less intelligent than others. The main reasoning for this is that atheists are more open to accepting different things in many social conditions because they don't have the belief toward something that they can't see.

In the article, he provides these facts:
Highly religious countries:
Are poorer.
They are less urbanized.
Have lower levels of education.
They have less exposure to electronic media that increase intelligence (Barber, 2006).
Experience a heavier load of infectious diseases that impair brain function.
Suffer more from low birth weights.
Have worse child nutrition.
Do a poor job of controlling environmental pollutants such as lead that reduce IQ.

I don't think atheism is as simple as a choice. Though atheists are choosing not to believe in god, but they really have to believe that there is "no god". You can't just randomly say "I am an atheist" and expect to be smarter. What I think is that Atheists are normally more educated and they are living in European countries where religion is not needed, so I would say that it is based on logic and scientific reasoning. I believe that being an Atheist doens't make you more intelligent, but being more intelligent makes you to likely be an Atheist. Atheists will most likely be smarter because they have more resources, whereas people living in poorer countries need religion to depend on and lack education like the ones in developed countries. Most atheists are smarter than non-atheists, but it's not because of the choice they made, but what influenced that decision.
