Balancing Act
We talked about balancing in class this past week and how the brain can balance itself out. Well a few days ago my grandma had a brain operation called a "shunt." When you walk normally, you pick one foot up, then another. But she wasn't doing that. She was shuffling her feet to get around. Walking without actually picking up her legs. This was due to an imbalance caused by too much fluid around her brain. It's whats known as "Hydrocephalus." I believe after she had the fluid redirected, it went to her stomach. Or at least that's what I heard from my parents since they said she was feeling some pain and discomfort and that thats where the fluid was draining to first. So based on that, it leads me to believe she received a "VP" shunt. But here is more info on it for you to read about how the fluid backs up and such: http://www.cordingleyneurology.com/hydrocephalus.html
