Hypnosis

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a trance-like state characterized by extreme relaxation and heightened imagination. It is often compared to daydreaming because the subject is fully conscious, yet they tend to block the stimuli surrounding them.

Hypnosis is induced by a number of suggestions, usually verbal in nature, beginning with the suggestion of relaxation. The suggestions may be directly induced by a hypnotist, or they can be self-induced in the case of self-hypnosis.

Common Misconceptions
-Fiction: Hypnosis is sleep or loss of consciousness.
-Fact: Unlike sleep, your senses stay alert to everything
that is going on around you.

-Fiction: You will not remember anything the hypnotist tells
you.
-Fact: The conscious mind is developed to draw beneficial
information into the unconscious mind where it is stored.

-Fiction: Not everyone can be hypnotized.
-Fact: The hypnotic state is a natural place that we visit
many times each day

-Fiction: Some people never return from the hypnotized
state.
-Fact: Because the hypnotic state is no different than focused
concentration, it is an easy and natural place for people to drift back
out from.

Methods used to hypnotize people
1. Ask the subject to sit in a comfortable chair in a dimmed room.
Make sure they are not lying down, otherwise it will increase
the chances of your subject falling asleep.
2. Use relaxation techniques to slow the brainwave patterns to
alpha, theta or delta depending on what work your client wishes to
accomplish.
3. Ask questions to the client's subconscious to discover the root and
hidden cause of problem. The client can even be asked what
is the best method for his or her recovery.
4. Offer suggestions specifically geared to the goal of the therapy.
The suggestions can be specific or creative.
5. Bring the client back to alert beta brainwave patterns.
6. Discuss highlights of the session with the client.
7. Now you should be able to control your patient.

What are the uses of Hypnosis?
Hypnosis has many different uses, which include weight loss, pain reliever, means of relaxation, and treatment for several different skin diseases.

A 1996 study concluded that hypnosis was successful in reducing pain for people suffering from burn-wounds, bone marrow aspirations, cancer and childbirth.

Studies also show that hypnosis has helped people quit smoking, lose weight, and relieve stress, promoting relaxation and physical well-being.

Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis in psychotherapy. Physicians and psychiatrists use hypnosis to help treat depression, anxiety, eating disorders, sleep disorders, and posttraumatic stress disorder.

Hypnosis is getting very popular . As this article says, many people try to treat their problems with these kind of hypnosis therapy. Also, in my country, people do hypnosis for other purpose. This is religious thing from buddhism.
Which is called" previous existence". In asia, many people belive they had a life before they were born. So, some people want to see their life before through hypnosis. The intresting fact is many people have seen their previous life through this way.
However, hypnosis is using for many functions in today and many people believe it can treat the problem very well. The question is this have really scientific evidence which relate to our body and brain.

Hee Young Park, I never realized you can use hypnosis to look in to the past as far as another past life that we may have had. I am very open minded, and have in a way accepted the fact that we may have all had past lives, and we just don't remember it or know of its existence. But it's interesting to know that, hypnosis, may be a passage or key to knowing more about this phenomenon. I believe that hypnosis is very real and useful for many purposes, but to be able to use it for purposes of seeking a previous existence is very fascinating and enduring to me, also because I believe that dreams have a way of communicating to us and revealing to us about our previous existences. Ever dream of people or places you have never met before? How do you explain seeing them then or how does your mind create a non existence? The mind is complex don't get me wrong, but it is definitely possible. I would be very interested to know how we can use hypnosis, and dream research together to come to more conclusions and theories and to learn more about how these two tools can help in unlocking some mysteries or at least get some really interesting new information.

Very informative hypnosis post. Thank you.

I am inspired when you say: Not everyone can be hypnotised, but I know that it is only the level of trance a person can go in.

Thanks again.
